Eye diseases can be painful and can lower a person’s quality of life. Many conditions, like cataracts, get worse over time. Sometimes, they need surgical intervention.
We diagnose and treat eye diseases for those who do not have health insurance. During regular vision and eye exams, patients can catch eye problems early. This gives them the best chance at preventing the disease from getting worse.
Vision problems can also make life more difficult. The most common types of vision problems we see are refractive errors, nearsightedness, and farsightedness. We also see astigmatism, strabismus, and color blindness.
At our center for comprehensive medical care, we offer eye exams. These exams help us treat eye problems before they interfere with the quality of life of our patients.
Our eye exams include a visual acuity test. This test allows us to get a sense of how far you can see. The exams also include a visual refraction test. Visual refraction tests use a phoropter, which is a device that helps us find out whether patients need vision correction. We also provide visual field tests, which help determine the field of vision of our patients.
To examine the cornea, iris, anterior chamber, and lens, we perform a slit-lamp exam. This simple exam allows us to find infections, cuts, tears, and other issues in the eye.
We test for glaucoma by measuring the pressure inside the eye. We can also test the thickness of the cornea if glaucoma is a concern. For most patients, we perform an eye dilation. We insert drops into the eye that increase the size of the iris. These drops allow us a clearer view of the retina, optic nerve, lens, and cornea.
We are a free clinic for those who qualify, and we are also a clinic that accepts Medi-Cal. At Southern California Medical Center, we do not turn anyone away for not being able to pay. We offer pediatric care, physical therapy, dental care, pregnancy care, mental health care, and primary medical care.
It can be difficult for patients to set aside time for appointments, so we offer specialists on-site. You do not have to worry about juggling appointments at many locations when you turn to Southern California Medical Center.
